Congratulations!
Congratulations to the team at AESSEAL Inc. for receiving the 2024 Tom Ballard Advanced Energy Leadership Award at the recent Opportunities in Energy conference of the Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council. In attendance to receive the award on behalf of the company were AESSEAL Inc.’s Head of Operations Chris Staackmann as well as Operations & Compliance Manager Josh Perry. Solar Alliance was honored to present the award on behalf of TAEBC.
What About this Project?
The North American Headquarters for AESSEAL Inc. is located on a campus setting in Stock Creek Development Center in Blount County. Company leadership wanted to follow its commitment to NetZero and sustainability that it was already meeting at other locations worldwide, adding the ability to produce and store clean, solar energy at its North American site.
Solar Alliance earned the trust of plant managers and designed its 526-kilowatt rooftop solar array, which AESSEAL Inc. planned to pair with a large-scale 500-kilowatt battery storage system. This system in its entirety is one of the largest of its kind for private industry in the state of Tennessee.
What Does AESSEAL Inc. Do?
This company is a leader in mechanical seals and support systems for a range of industries around the globe. It helps other manufacturers reduce water and conserve during their own specialized processes. Seals are required for the production of many common household products as well as heavy industrial processes.
Why Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council Connection?
The TAEBC, led by Executive Director Cortney Piper, brings together research, policy and industry to promote innovation and jobs. The organization includes all sorts of energy leaders, including those in renewable energy like member and supporter Solar Alliance. The Ballard award is named for TAEBC’s first president, who is still active in Tennessee business and innovation. The award is intended to honor, per TAEBC’s announcement, “exemplary leadership and success in championing, connecting, and strengthening Tennessee’s advanced energy economy.”
What’s Different About this Battery?
Because of AESSEAL Inc.’s global ties, it procured the storage-container-sized battery from a UK partner, going through the proper channels to make sure the entire system was permitted and working seamlessly with the PV system installed by Solar Alliance. The company also enlisted an East Tennessee artist for a custom mural on the battery. Energy storage is what enables PV system owners to store any excess electricity produced during the daytime for use at night or at a later time. It creates a layer of resilience to keep facilities running, even if there were disruption to the surrounding power grid.
