Historic Crawford House is elevating its environmental commitment in 2024 with a new Solar + Storage system designed and installed by Solar Alliance Southeast. This provides the capacity for the center on Maryville College campus to cover all of its energy needs with clean, abundant solar energy.
Crawford House previously earned LEED Gold certification for several sustainability efforts. It houses the Mountain Challenge program for students as well as the Fit.Green.Happy® program for corporate groups.
“It is the next step in trying to keep our environment as healthy as we can make it,” said program founder Bruce Guillaume.
The photovoltaic system is 4.8 kilowatts (kW) DC with an 18-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery system. The energy storage component allows electricity produced in excess of what the center needs to be stored for use overnight or on an overcast day.
