The latest solar + storage technology is offsetting the need for grid power at two Smokies area vacation cabins, this picturesque resort area that caters to tourists. Now, while connecting with nature at Creekwood Inn at Whisperwood Farm, guests can choose their stay in a cabin that runs on clean, solar energy. This project was supported by a USDA Rural Energy for America Program grant for this small, family owned business in a rural area of East Tennessee. Two individual solar arrays on rooftops are connected to their own battery energy storage systems or BESS that are housed on the exterior. This scalable system could work in other resort settings.
