Clean, solar energy is helping run daily operations at the new headquarters for leading architects McCarty Holsaple McCarty in Knoxville.  Along with the group’s offices, 625 N Broadway houses space for other local businesses on the restored site of the historic Sanitary Laundry Building.

Solar Alliance Southeast designed and installed the 54 kW DC/60 kW AC solar photovoltaic system for the rooftop, as part of this major renovation. Renewable energy is featured in this MHM video where architects explain more about the project.  In the video, Principal Margaret Butler says, “Sustainability is a core belief of our firm.  Our office really needed to represent that. It is an element of every project that we do.”

The solar PV system atop this 30,000 square foot downtown Knoxville space can offset an approximate 57 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.  This is equivalent to not burning 63,500 pounds of coal annually, or to not charging 3.8 million cell phones.

MHM is earning multiple certifications for its sustainable building practices on this project, and solar energy is a contributing factor.
